To drink a great coffee. To visit a beach, visit a great museum, eat delicious food and learn salsa, all in one day. To see the errors made by Hollywood. To be able to dismiss what they say about Colombia. To see the rich culture and folklore. To learn about Latin America. To enjoy life!

I’m not always the biggest fan of the weather here in Bogotá, but the varied landscape, and the many wonders to see, make Colombia the place to visit.

Colombia is great place to practice Spanish and meet locals because tourism is relatively new here and it’s not quite on the gringo trail yet. However, the country has adequate transportation infrastructure and much improved safety, making traveling easy and extremely enjoyable.

Coming to Colombia will not only allow you to see nature as its best like in the incredible Valle de Cocora or the beautiful Punta Gallinas in the Desierto de La Guajira, it will more importantly allow you to meet with the friendlly and generous Colombians, and that’s what travel is about.

Why should you come to Colombia? Because even though everything is new and exotic, the people always make you feel at home. Oh, and to dance salsa with the beautiful Colombianas!

Colombia is a country that will constantly surprise you, offering some of the most beautiful landscapes imaginable, from the coast to snow capped mountains. Throw into the mix a nation that loves to party and you have the perfect trip away!

I started running Bogotá tours and they’ve been a massive success. For that I have to thank the independent spirit of Colombians, and their incredibly rich culture that isn’t just on show in museums – it’s on show all over the country.

Bogotá is great as it has very distinct neighbourhoods, and there’s always something going on. Colombia has all the landscapes in the world: beautiful beaches, snow-capped mountains, deserts (including the Mars-like Tatacoa Desert) and Amazonian jungle. Colombia, in general, is somewhere you just have to visit.

First of all you should come for the country itself. It’s a beautiful country, where you can find anything that you’re looking for. And second for the people. Colombian people are really friendly and always open and welcoming to foreigners, and off course the party… we love to party!

One of the many reasons I love Colombia is because of the amazingly warm, resilient, resourceful and giving people. They have truly embraced me more out of the sincerity of their spirits than the fact that I am a foreigner in love with the country.

After being an expat almost my whole life in several countries I chose to settle in Colombia because I truly believe this is still a hidden paradise; the last one in Latin America. People here are the most polite, generous, uninterested, selfless people I have met in my whole life and in all my travels. This is a country that breathes hope, because Colombians are more than willing to let everyone know that Colombia bears no resemblance to the stereotype that is still in the mind of most people.

Very convincing anecdotes! Colombia sounds like a very diverse country with lots of places to visit.

It sure is. We’d highly recommend at least visiting, if you can’t move here!

I’m from Pereira, Colombia. If you haven’t been there yet, you must go! Not only is it one of the main coffee production points but it has been rapidly growing in the past few years. It is home to the largest zoo in the country and one of South America’s best due to its vast variety of exotic species. The nightlife is amazing! You will find bars or clubs for just about any genre of music! Whoever loves shopping can do it here thanks to the numerous amount of malls. We are very welcoming and kind to tourists. But the best part of Pereira, in my opinion, are the “Termales de Santa Rosa de Cabal”; perfect place to go relax!
Nevertheless, all places in Colombia are worth visiting! Amazing scenery, amazing nightlife, tons of places to see and things to do. What else can you ask for?
COLOMBIA ES PASION!

After visits, and sometimes lengthy stays, over the past four years to Medellin, Bogota, Manizales (many people liked my post “Almost Heaven: Manizales, Colombia” http://wp.me/p1xI5P-2J), Cartagena and more of this country’s wonderful parts. I have been living in Barranquilla for most of this year. The geography can take your breadth away. The connection to the African diaspora that many Colombians feel makes for a richness and pride that I have never felt in the United States. My soul is at peace here. In reality, I need no other reason to love Colombia. Thanks for the opportunity to comment.

I’ve never met anybody who absolutely didn’t love their stay in Colombia. I’ve been an avid traveler now since ’08. My wife I met in Colombia and we keep a second home there. When my son graduates in 2-1/2 years….will be living there with the second home in the states 🙂

Sounds like a great plan, best of luck to your son, too!

Oh, I´ve been only once in Colombia (4weeks).
The biggest gratitude I want to give is to the people,
never been so well met and understood (with my “poquito” castellano) and
the sincere, open minded, helpful and great attitude towards me.
I love it, hope to get back soon!

Thanks for the comment Stefan, and so glad you liked it here. Honestly, you come for the incredible sights… You stay for the people.
