Multi-linguists rejoice! Right now in Bogotá the EuroCine Festival is taking place; a festival dedicated to showing some of the best cinema Europe has to offer. Movies from Italy, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Ireland, the UK, Spain, Norway, Denmark, France, Germany and much more are on offer, with Poland being the festival’s guest of honor.
European cinema has a reputation worldwide of producing some of the most-thought provoking and experimental films that have graced the silver-screen. The festival is an opportunity to appreciate why this reputation exists, and also to gain an understanding about how European Cinema manifests itself in the highly diverse countries in Europe, both in terms of similarities and differences. It’s a great chance for locals and travelers to discover some of the harder to find releases of the last few years, as well as a few classics.

If you’re not going to be in Bogotá in time for this festival (it finishes on the 8th of May) then fear not, once EuroCine has finished in Bogotá the festival will determinedly make its way through a series of other cities, going from Bogotá to Medellín to Cali to Barranquilla. Events will also take place in Neiva, Manizales, Villavicencio and Oriente Antiqueño, although without the same extensive catalogue of films.
Colombia is one of the premier destinations in South America for culture and the arts, as is evidenced throughout its major cultural cities such as Bogotá (which hosts South America’s biggest book fair), Medellín and Cartagena.
Notable screenings (in our humble opinion) include:
- Hunger (Ireland)
- Du Levande (Sweden)
- Nothing Personal (Netherlands)
- Enter The Void (France)
- Metropia (Sweden)
- También La Lluvia (Spain)
