We at the Colombia Travel Blog are often asked what to do when you only have 24 hours in Bogota, and also about day trips from the big city. One fantastic option is Parque Natural Chicaque which, depending on the day, is just 30-60 minutes away.

Parque Natural Chicaque is a cloud forest reserve that’s full of spectacular scenery and incredible wildlife (supposedly around 300 species of birds and animals). Although the trip is possible in 1 day, we’d recommend, if time allows, to take two.

There are almost 20km of footpaths through 7 types of forest (who knew there were that many types of forest?!) that will allow you to take great photos.

As for accommodation, you have a couple of options. The most popular is the Refuge, which is a camp site that offers 3 meals and some showers. The other option is the cabañas, which also supplies food, although you might be swayed towards the Refuge simple because of it’s stunning views of the region.

To get to Parque Natural Chicaque it is possible to use public transport. There’s a good guide to that here.

The other alternative is to get in touch with the park and they can organise transport for you. Check out their website here.

Our friends over at Off2Colombia, as is so often their way, collected footage from their trip to the park and made a great video about their experience. The video is below, and should be enough to tempt you away from the bustling streets of Bogota if you feel you need a break:
