Hello again everyone!
Great week this week, although very busy as good things keep happening to us in the office…
Nonetheless, I made a promise to answer some of you questions every Friday and I won’t let you down!! This week’s question came from Trip Advisor, where I spend a lot of time trying to help people navigate and plan their various trips to Colombia.

The question posed was about a potential itinerary involving 4 days in the Amazon region and 4 days in Bogotá for 3 people. Great, something to sink my teeth into…

What I would suggest for someone looking to blend both Bogotá and the Amazon into one trip (great idea by the way, mixing cosmopolitan Bogotá with the wilderness of Colombia’s Amazon region!) is as follows:
Day 1: Arrive in Bogota and spend the night. I would recommend a hotel in the north of the city, where you’ll be surrounded by bars and restaurants of international standards.
Day 2: Take a City Tour (you can do it on a bike too, as Linda and Bernie found out) which will show you the best of the city such as La Candelaria, the Gold Museum and maybe, if you like, Monserrate.
Day 3: Go to the peaceful, charming Villa de Leyva and on the way stop to visit the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira.
Day 4: Take a walking tour and if you have time visit the stunning Chorrera waterfalls – unforgettable!
Day 5: On your way back to Bogotá stop at Raquira for some amazing handcrafts in the most colourful town in Colombia
Day 6: Flight to Leticia, Amazon: here we come!
Day 7: Learn about the culture of some indigenous communities and stay at the fascinating natural reserve.
Day 8: Swim and make friends with pink dolphins (surely a first for most people?!), or just go for a walk in the forests and discover all about Colombia’s spectacular and diverse wildlife.
Day 9: Fly back to Bogota and, if you have time, head further north to Usaquén where you’ll find a great deal of fantastic dining options.
Day 10: Fly back home =(
So if anyone’s planning something like this excursion, I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch here.
Abrazos

My husband and I will be there 08/01 – 08/31. We wanted to know if it was cheaper to get flights from Bogota to Peru as we would like to visit Maccho Picchu, also Ecuador, Brazil? Do they have trains to take you there? What is the best way for transportation? Sorry for all the questions.

Hola Myrna
Thank you very much for your comment and questions… =) keep them coming!
Here we go: It is cheaper to fly from Bogota to Quito and from there fly onto Galpagos. The cheapest and shortest flight to Peru would be from Guayaquil to Lima and from there you can take another flight or bus to Macchu Picchu.
In Colombia we don’t have trains for passengers only for cargo. There is a short touristic train route from Bogota to Zipaquira and Nemocon where the salt mines are.
The best type of transportation in Colombia really depend on your budget and time you have available. Internal flights are really short and have become more affordable than before. Bus fares are obviously cheaper but some routes, although are good (for example Cartagena to Medellin), take more than 20 hours ={
Hope this helps with your planning. Feel free to keep asking… we love to answer!
Abrazos

Good ideas Marcela. Raquira sounds really interesting. I’ll have to check out some photos and keep that in mind next time we’re over that way!

Stephanie, I’ve sent you an email but maybe it’s gone into your junk mail? Hope you’re well.
