How do we celebrate Valentine’s Day in Colombia? Simply put, we don’t. Sure, restaurants will see increased traffic and florists in Colombia will sell more flowers, but generally it’s all a rather subdued affair.
It’s pretty normal for Latin Americans to change the name of Valentine’s Day to Amor y Amistad, but Colombia is the only country here as far as we know that has decided to move the date all the way to September.
So why is that? Why is it that Valentine’s Day in Colombia is barely celebrated (of course, the commercialisation of the day has still touched these shores, especially in more affluent areas) and Amor y Amistad is in September? Any answers, oh dear public?
And how will you be celebrating (or not)?
