James Rodriguez, the 22 year old star of Colombia’s World Cup campaign, has taken Brazil 2014 by storm. With 5 goals and 2 assists he leads the race for the Golden Boot, and has received praise from across the world of sports and entertainment. Managers comparing him to Pele and Maradona may be a tad premature, but those calling him the standout performer of this World Cup are dead on: James has been magnificent; his performances elevating him to the level of world class superstar. Rihanna and LeBron James even tweeted about him…I mean, Rihanna!
So, with arguably the biggest game in Colombian footballing history happening tomorrow, we though we’d inspire the millions of Colombian fans around the world with a little reminder of what the team’s talisman can do, with our video collection of James’ greatest hits. You can keep your Neymar!
Here’s James scoring his first goal for Banfield in Argentina. What a hit!
After a move over the Atlantic to Porto, James became a scoring sensation, netting 32 times in 3 years. Here a great compilation of ALL of those goals (we do spoil you!). I like the one at 0:46: it’s like a little precursor to his World Cup goals vs. Japan.
Then came a lucrative 40 million euro move to Monaco to join up with Colombia teammate Falcao. James has only played one season in the French League, but he’s taken that by storm as well. Check out the goal at 1:52…wow, just wow!
And of course, James is Colombian! It was current coach Jose Pekerman who had faith in James, and it has certainly paid off! Here’s a video reminder of his performances in Brazil. That goal against Uruguay was something else, wasn’t it!?
So there’s the very best of James. His greatest hits, dribbles, feints and shimmies, if you like. I cannot wait to watch the game tomorrow, and I believe that Colombia can win! Vamos James y vamos Colombia!
Chris
