Cocuy – TEMPLATE

US$0 €0 - £0

This fascinating tour takes you to the impressive Sierra Nevada de Cocuy mountain range – home to 21 soaring peaks, of which 15 are higher than 5000m above sea level.

Currently the largest glaciers here are Pan de Azucar and the Ritacuba Blanco. Throughout the entire mountain range there are over 100 lakes, the most impressive being Laguna de la Plaza. This beautiful region offers many alternative routes for both experienced hikers and passengers with no mountaineering experience. To ascend to the glacier is very important to follow a process of acclimatization to allow the body to gradually adjust to the altitude. It is without doubt one of the most important mountain landscapes in Colombia. All this and much more with See Colombia Travel.

Day 1. Bogota - Cocuy

We leave Bogota by public transport to the town of El Cocuy, crossing Bogota’s plains and heading north east to the Boyaca department. The journey takes approximately between 10 and 13 hours.

Day 2. Cocuy - Valle de Lagunillas (3.800m above sea level)

Today will be a day of acclimatization to the altitude of 3,800m above sea level. Land transfer to the Sisuma cabins where we’ll spend the night. Here you’ll have the chance to do some short acclimatization walks and will be the prefect chance to take the first photos of this amazing scenery.

Day 3. Cabins - Pulpito del Diablo - Pan de Azucar (4,900m above sea level)

After breakfast we start our ascent to Pulpito del Diablo (Devil’s Pulpit) at 4.900m, and Pan de Azucar (Sugarloaf) all the way to the edge of the glacier. In the afternoon we will express transfer to Hacienda La Esperanza where we’ll spend the night.

Day 4. Laguna Grande (4.500m above sea level)

Today we we’ll have the chance to visit the Laguna Grande lake at 4.500m, where we’ll spend the morning. At the prearranged time we head back to the town of El Cocuy and to the posada where will have some free time to rest.

Day 5. Cocuy - Bogota

At the set time transfer back to Bogota by public transport. All good things must come to an end, after all. Of course, if 5 days just isn’t enough time in Colombia, our tours are 100% customizable and we´d be happy to extend your stay with us. Just ask for more details.
