Bogotá’s revival has propelled the city rapidly into becoming one of the most exciting cities in South America. It now stands toe to toe with cities such as Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro in terms of its museums, gastronomy, fashion and nightlife. From the bohemian La Candelaria area of Bogotá  that brims with arty museums, cafes, shops and restaurants to the more wealthy regions of the north that boast fine dining, high-end fashion and many English-inspired pubs, Bogotá can seem like many disparate towns all merged into one fascinating city. On our Bogotá short break you’ll also have the opportunity to visit nearby attractions such as Zipaquira Salt Cathedral and El Dorado Lake. Even as you become accustomed to the city’s altitude, Bogotá continues to take your breath away.

BIKE TOUR

Day 1. Bogota - Bike Tour

This tour allows you to discover the colorful history and culture of la Candelaria neighborhood, located in the historic center of Bogota. The tour is adjustable to suit various weather conditions and preferences. It enables you to visit the city in a more fun way, allowing a closer interaction between the visitor and Bogota. The tour starts at 10:30am and lasts for 3 to 5 hours, passing by the Plaza del Chorro, the Botero museum, the National Museum, Plaza Bolivar, local market plaza, central cemetery, Egipto Neighborhood, the Colombian National University, the Gabriel Garcia Marquez cultural center, the Bullfighting Stadium, when available, and many other interest sites. It is very flexible, so if you have suggestions feel free to mention them to the guide.

6HR CITY TOUR

Day 1. Bogota - City Tour

This is a six-hour excursion that visits the colonial area of La Candelaria, the historical center of the city. It is in the oldest part of the capital, where you’ll find museums, restaurants and cultural institutions. Afterwards we visit the Bolívar Square at the heart of the city and surrounded by buildings of various styles and from various periods, such as the Cathedral, the Chapel of El Sagrario, the Cardinal’s Palace and the Capitolio or Congress Building. Behind the latter is the Nariño Palace, home of the president.  We continue to the Quinta de Bolívar. Once a colonial mansion of great architectural value, it is now converted into a museum that houses documents and objects that belonged to Simón Bolívar.  Afterwards we will go to the Gold Museum (closed on Mondays), where we will find a collection of more than 36,000 pieces of pre-Columbian manufacture; being the only display of its kind in the world. Finally, we will take a cable car to visit Monserrate for a fantastic view of the city.

TOBIA WHITE WATER RAFTING & CANYONING

Day 1. White Water Rafting - Tobia

Today you’ll have the chance to raft down Rio Negro. You’ll be taken to the starting point where you’ll be briefed about the details of this activity and provided with all required equipment. From there you’ll have approximately 6 kilometers of adventure and unique flora and fauna down the Black River (Rio Negro). Meals: Lunch box.

Canyoning - Tobia

Beautiful walk through creeks and natural waterfalls, where you will be face to face with nature, the perfect opportunity to leave all city stress behind and immerse yourself in the unique scenery. Meals: Lunch box.

ZIPAQUIRA & GUATAVITA

Day 1. Zipaquira. Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira and 'El Dorado' Sacred Lake of Gutavita

Today we will visit the salt mines of Zipaquira, from where the monumental Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira was excavated. This unique structure is almost 400ft deep and it occupies an area of around 8000m², with four sections, each one 300ft long and 42ft wide. It presents 12, 30ft high impressive salt columns that support the structure. In the first tract of the underground journey, you will find the XIV Stations of the Via Cruxis, each designed by a local artist. Subsequently, a 175 meter long ramp descending to  the last 13 meters towards the balconies on the cameras and the church choir. The final tract leads to the center of the Cathedral where we find the three monumental cameras and the 16m tall cross. Return to Bogota.

After visiting the salt mines, as an optional activity, we’ll continue to the Lake of Guatavita, where the legend of El Dorado originates. According to this legend, in the pre-Columbian days the Indians held special religious ceremonies in which the Chief (Cacique), with his body totally covered with gold dust, was submerged in the lake as an offering to their gods, while the natives threw precious stones and gold pieces into the lake. In 1967 the area, including the old village, was flooded, forcing the construction of a new town in a style that resembles the old Spanish colonial architecture. Return to Bogota.

CHINGAZA

This fascinating tour takes you to the impressive rocky peaks of Chingaza National Park, just a couple of hours away from the bustling capital.

Day 1. Chingaza National Park

On this day trip from Bogota you will hike in the Colombian Andes at 3400 meters above sea level. You will discover the incredible and unique flora and fauna the highlands have to offer as you hike to the marvelous lakes ‘Lagunas de Siechase’. The weather at that altitude can be very unpredictable, so be prepared for rain or shine.

HOP ON -OFF BUS

Day 1. Bogota - Hop on -off bus

This tour allows you to discover the colorful history and culture of la Candelaria neighborhood, located in the historic center of Bogota and various other highlights throught the city such as the Botanical Gardens, Parque 93 and Parque Central . As part of the tour you will have the option to enjoy La Candelaria on foot passing by the Plaza del Chorro, the Botero museum, the National Museum, Plaza Bolivar and many other interest sites. It is very flexible and you’ll have 24 hour to decide where to go (Monserrate entrance not included but discounted).

COFFEE EXPERIENCE TOUR FUSA

Day 1. Fusagasuga. Coffee Experience and Tasting.

You will be picked up from your hotel and taken to a coffee farm just outside of Bogotá in a town called Fusagasuga. Here a guide will take you on a tour of the finca where you will learn about the coffee-making process and enjoy and freshly brewed cup of coffee.
