This urban tour will introduce you to three of Colombia’s most important cites. Starting in Bogota, you’ll become intimate with Colombia’s dynamic capital, a historic and bustling metropolis that houses over 8 million people. From Bogota you will visit the salt mines of Zipaquira, where you will see the remarkable cathedral that is located there. The next stop is Medellin, famous for its vibrant nightlife and lively cultural scene. From Medellin you will visit Santa Fe de Antioquia, a charming, colorful old town. Cartagena is the final city on the itinerary and is a great way to finish your vacation. Named a UNESCO World Heritage site, the cobbled streets and colorful buildings of the Old City never fail to leave a mark on people who visit, making it one of the most famous tourist destinations in Colombia.
Day 1 - January 16. Bogota
Upon arrival one of See Colombia Travel´s representatives will be on hand to transfer you to your chosen hotel where you can relax and prepare for your upcoming adventure with us.
Day 2 - January 17. Bogota. Bike Tour
This tour will take you to the heart of Bogota in 3 to 5 hours and is fully adjustable to suit all weather conditions and preferences. It begins with a visit to the Church of El Carmen. Our next destination will be the Nariño Palace, home to Colombia’s President, followed by a visit to Plaza Bolivar, where we will see the National Capitol building, the courthouse, Primada Cathedral, Chapel del Sagrario and the Archbishop’s Palace. Before ending the tour with a visit to the beautiful La Candelaria church, you will have the opportunity to admire the 18th Century facade of the Military Museum. Meals: B.
Day 3 - January 18. Bogota – Zipaquira – Guatavita. Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira and El Dorado’s Sacred Lake
From Bogota we will take you the salt mines of Zipaquira, from where the monumental Cathedral was excavated. This unique structure is almost 120m deep and occupies an area of around 8000m², with four sections, each one 100m long and 13m wide.
After visiting the salt mines, we’ll continue to the Lake of Guatavita, where the legend of El Dorado originates. According to the legend, in pre-Columbian times the Indians held special religious ceremonies in which the Chief (Cacique), with his body totally covered with gold dust, was submerged in the lake as an offering to their gods, while the natives threw precious stones and gold pieces into the lake. Day 4 - January 19. Bogota – Medellin
Transfer to airport for your journey across Colombia. Upon arrival in Medellin transfer to your chosen hotel where you can relax and prepare for the rest of your adventure.
We will then set off on a 4 hour trip that uncovers the roots of Medellín and its most iconic symbols, such as the “Pueblito Paisa”, the Intelligent Edifice, the Plaza Mayor, the Administrative Center of La Alpujarra and Carabobo street. You will get a chance to travel on the “Metro Cable”, a massive, modern transportation system unique to the city, and you will also visit España Library Park and its distinctive architectural structure. Day 5 - January 20. Medellin – Santa Fe de Antioquia
After breakfast we leave Medellín for Santa Fe de Antioquia, declared Humanity´s Heritage. Its small cobbled streets and its beautiful houses and balconies will transport you back to the colonial period. The access road goes through a 4km tunnel and passes by the “Puente Colgante de Occidente”, a masterpiece of engineering from the 19th century. Meals: B.
Day 6 - January 21. Medellin– Cartagena
Transfer to airport. Upon arrival in colorful Cartagena you will transfer to your specially chosen hotel in order to relax and prepare for your upcoming Cartagena City Tour. Meals: B.
Day 7 - January 22. Cartagena City Tour
We begin the tour with a visit to see the oldest church in the city, San Pedro Claver. Whilst in the famous Old City, we will visit Plaza Bolivar, Bobedas and the Bocagrande neighbourhood. The Old City retains all the charm of the colonial days, its narrow, cobbled streets flanked by charming balconies and traditional wooden doors. Your afternoon will be free to enjoy the city at your leisure. Meals: B.
Day 8 - January 23. Cartagena
At the chosen time you will be transferred to the airport. All good things must come to an end, after all. Of course, if 8 days just isn´t enough time in Colombia, our tours are 100% customizable and we´d be happy to extend your stay with us. Just ask for more details. Meals: B.
