When you’re traveling, time doesn’t always do you favors and can often leave you in a quiet beach resort like Tayrona at the weekend just before taking you to a party city at the start of the week, just when everyone seems to be recovering from their hangovers. Fortunately for us, in Bogotá there are a group of entrepreneurs with a penchant for partying that are making every effort to see that travelers can party every night of the week.
Their first bid to ensure your Bogotá vacation is as much about culture as it is about having a good takes place on that (formerly) most boring of days, Tuesday. Gringo Tuesdays, as you might guess from the name, is designed to give travelers a place to party should they arrive mid-week, but it’s also much more than that. For the opening few hours of a night at Gringo Tuesdays, locals and foreigners come together in a language exchange, aided by the 2×1 Happy Hour that lasts until 10pm. There are a number of languages you can practice, including French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, English and much more.
Of course, once the language exchange section finishes, many people are on the verge of being tipsy and, when the music starts blasting, a party ensues. With a DJ playing everything from 80s classics (Starship, anyone?) to cutting-edge remixes of artists as diverse as Le Roux, Animal Collective and Madonna, you’re bound to hear something you like and can shake your money-maker to.
Drinks start at $6.000 COL, and for just $10.000 COL you can try Sierra del Tigre, easily the best beer I’ve sampled here in Colombia. It’s brewed locally by friends of the organizers who, I’ve been assured, would only settle for the very best beer available to them.
