Fluro-coloured tribal gear, Day of the Dead face paint, electro-fused rhythms and tequila, lots of tequila – it was El Jalogüin concierto at Teatro Royal Centre and it was really more like a mini festival than a Bogotá concert. The likes of El Freaky, Side Stepper, Systema Solar and Chocquibtown played and used their sweet tunes to get the crowd going. Even with a hangover and a serious case of I-want-to-be-in-bed syndrome, I had a hard time keeping myself from dancing.
El Freaky started off the set with big sounds and rough beats to bump and grind to until Sidestepper came on and got the crowd going with their infectiously happy rhythms, all dressed in white and reminding the crowd of warmer weather and big parties on the coast somewhere. It may have been a cold night in Bogotá but on that Friday we felt like we were somewhere tropical and warm.
Chocquibtown headlined and, of course, and the crowd went off, singing along, embracing each other, or holding each other upright as the effects of the tequila set in, either way, Chocquibtown got us all moving. But Systema Solar stole the show for me, with their hypnotic videos, eclectic mixes of tribal beats, electro-fused sounds and their crazy dancing, when they finished I wanted more!

And then, as the Halloween face paint started to sweat off, Chocquibtown played their last song and it was time to to mosey on home and wait for the next Halloweeen-themed party to come along, and I’m sure there will be many.
Be sure to check out when El Freaky, Sidestepper, Systema Solar and Chocquibtown are touring next.
