A limited independence, later made permanent, was decreed in the country, freeing Colombia from the Spanish.<\/p>\n<div id=\"abm\">\n<div id=\"abc\">\n<div id=\"articlebody\">\n<p>The riot was incited under unusual circumstances, although it is said the plan was\u00a0pre-devised. The plan was that a selection of Bogotanos would ask Spanish merchant Joaqu\u00edn Gonzalez Llorente for a flower vase. It was assumed \u2013 correctly \u2013 that Llorente, an uncharitable man, would refuse. This refusal would grant an excuse to begin the riot. Owing to the large amount of emigration that has taken place in Colombia\u2019s history, many parties take place in cities throughout the world. This normally includes London, San Francisco, Melbourne and New York City. Thousands of Colombians and Latinos take to the street to enjoy the revelry and the spirit of Colombia captures the whole city.<\/p>\n<p>In Colombia we get Independence Day off of work, which means a pretty large party the night before (and during the whole week &#8211; <a title=\"Going Out in Bogot\u00e1: Gringo Tuesdays at La Villa\" href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2011\/05\/going-out-in-bogota-gringo-tuesdays-at-la-villa\/\">La Villa<\/a> had a huuuuuge party last night!).<\/p>\n<p>Colombians are very proud of their culture, of their country and of how they&#8217;ve come through a difficult past to become the country they are today.
