I always believed in you, Bogot\u00e1<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Just a few days ago my adopted city, the exhaustingly activity-rich Bogot\u00e1, was given the title of City Of Music by UNESCO. This makes it the 5th City of Music in the world, after\u00a0Seville, Bologna, Glasgow, and Ghent. It was recognised, according to ColombiaReports.com, as being a\u00a0“major center of musical creation and activity in Latin America.”<\/p>\n

Not only does this make us rolos (yeh that’s right, I’m a rolo) very proud, it also makes us excited for the future. Right now we’re in the midst of something of a musical explosion in Bogot\u00e1, and after this\u00a0announcement\u00a0I’m confident more and more bands will look to Bogot\u00e1 as a must-visit destination for tours. After all, if you’d have told me 2 years ago that I’d be watching Morrissey in Colombia along with 3,000 other people, I’d have laughed. After last Saturday, of course, that joke isn’t funny any more.<\/p>\n

And what else do we have to look forward to?<\/p>\n

On April 3rd multi-linguist Manu Chao will be performing for free in Plaza Bolivar.<\/p>\n

On April 19th my namesake and fellow countryman Paul McCartney<\/strong> will be performing at El Campin. Yes, Paul McCartney<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, y’know, from that band The Beatles? We’ll let you know if he’s dead or not when we see him.<\/p>\n

And coming very soon is one of the festivals we at the Colombia Travel Blog<\/a> are most excited about this year: Estereo Picnic.<\/p>\n

Estereo Picnic takes place every year just on the outskirts of Bogot\u00e1, and is one of the biggest events in the Colombian calender. Music festivals that collect together some of the best international artists in the rock-pop-indie-dubstep world aren’t so common in South America as in Europe, so this marks out Estereo Picnic as unique.<\/p>\n
