For us it started as a pretty humble project by Marcela. Her idea, having worked in tourism throughout South America, was to begin a blog about her own country. A country with little coverage, and one that the company she worked for wouldn’t even touch. She found what people thought about her country was very different to her own experience of living there, and that should people change their minds there was an incredible country waiting to be explored. That country, of course, was Colombia, and that blog started three years ago.<\/p>\n

Now we at the Colombia Travel Blog<\/a>, among many of our friends in the blogging community, have been asked by Proexport (responsible for tourism in Colombia) to help promote the country by contributing content and articles to the Colombia.Travel<\/a>website.<\/p>\n

It’s a very international affair, with writers coming from Peru, Colombia, Spain, the US, the UK, Belgium, France and many more countries. Each blog or page also has a very different genesis – some are hostels in Colombia<\/a>, some are webpages about Colombia, some are blogs about Colombia, some are travel agencies in Colombia.<\/a> All, however, have a united goal: to promote Colombia and encourage fellow travellers to explore this fascinating, diverse country.<\/p>\n

We all amount to the first official community of bloggers in a country: Colombia. It’s a brave and, we believe, progressive step to show the increasing unity between social media and travel. Good job Colombia for being at the forefront.<\/p>\n

The whole event was great fun and everyone in attendence enjoyed it a great deal. There was free food (bonus), games, presentations and even a guest appearance from Simon Bolivar, whodathunkit?<\/p>\n

For the success of the event, and for the honour of being involved, we have to thank ProExport<\/a> and Annie Burbano.<\/a> So to all our fellow #CTBloggers (the hash tag we used to report the event), we’re glad to be onside and may we all have great success promoting Colombia!<\/p>\n
