British culture and Colombian culture are vastly different in so many ways, and there are certainly things I miss about England when I&#8217;m in Colombia; however, there are <strong>many elements of Colombian culture that have captured me so fully that even a couple of weeks away has me pining<\/strong> for music, dancing, smiling faces and many other things&#8230;so here are the <strong>5 things I&#8217;m already missing about Colombia<\/strong>&#8230;(and you can read what previous editors <a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2012\/01\/top-5-things-i-miss-about-colombia-while-im-in-the-uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2013\/10\/11-things-i-missed-about-colombia-while-i-was-away\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azzam<\/a> missed about Colombia while they were away as well: <strong>this is a post that all Colombian bloggers end up writing at some point!)&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6734\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6734\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2013\/02\/paul-celebrates-2-years-living-in-colombia-photos\/401434_10150516815155785_1537654866_n\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6734\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6734\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/401434_10150516815155785_1537654866_n-e1390579846976.jpg\" alt=\"Beers in Bogota\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6734\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">You can&#8217;t beat a tienda!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1<em>. Tienda <\/em>beers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This one is economic as much as it is emotional &#8211; <strong>the drinking culture in general is very different in England and Colombia<\/strong> overall (I don&#8217;t miss England&#8217;s binge drinking culture in Colombia, that&#8217;s for sure!), but the thing I really miss is being able to go into what is essentially a corner shop, <strong>pull up a chair at a little metal table, order some cold Poker beers at 2.000 COP a bottle<\/strong>, pop some cheesy <em>llanero <\/em>music or vallenato on the video-jukebox and chat with friends for a few hours before either going on to a bar or club, or just heading home. Throw in a cheeky half bottle of aguardiente for the table and you&#8217;ve got the recipe for the perfect &#8216;pre-drinking&#8217; session &#8211; <strong>it certainly beats spending \u00a320 on just a few drinks in a rammed London bar, at least in my book&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4588\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4588\" style=\"width: 720px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2012\/08\/exchange-salsa-in-la-villa-the-biggest-bi-lingual-salsa-party-of-the-week\/580925_473030422721902_770386615_n\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4588\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4588\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/580925_473030422721902_770386615_n.jpg\" alt=\"Dancing in La Villa\" width=\"720\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/580925_473030422721902_770386615_n.jpg 720w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/580925_473030422721902_770386615_n-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4588\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dancing!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Dancing the night away (or at least watching people dance the night away&#8230;)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anyone who knows me might be surprised at this one: I&#8217;m not famous for my love of dancing to be fair! However, after a few nights out in England since I&#8217;ve been back,<strong> I do miss the easy and casual attitude that Colombians have towards getting on the dancefloor<\/strong>&#8230;in England dancing seems to be viewed as a necessary evil that sometimes <em>has <\/em>to be included on a night out, but certainly isn&#8217;t to be participated in with too much enthusiasm! Whereas in Colombia most people view a night as incomplete without taking a few turns on the dancefloor (or <em>tienda <\/em>shop-floor). I might not necessarily be pulling shapes with too much enthusiasm, but it&#8217;s <strong>the laid-back attitude to the fun of it all that I really miss (and the music, especially cumbia and, yes I&#8217;ll say it, vallenato!)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1828\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1828\" style=\"width: 375px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2011\/11\/10-gifts-to-bring-back-from-colombia-ideas-for-christmas\/rum\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1828\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1828\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/rum.jpg\" alt=\"Santa Fe Rum\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/rum.jpg 375w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/rum-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1828\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fancy a 3am delivery carton of rum!?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Delivery&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sure, the classic pizza delivery is a pretty standard thing in both England and Colombia, but it&#8217;s <strong>Colombia that has really taken delivery (or <em>domicilio<\/em>) to whole new heights of excellence<\/strong> &#8211; you can basically order everything for home delivery here. Run out of rum at the house party at 3am&#8230;order it in; wake up from said house party with a hangover&#8230;<strong>order in some remedies from the pharmacy<\/strong>; don&#8217;t have a washing machine&#8230;order one in for a few hours &#8211; this list goes on and on&#8230;think of something you need and chances are it can get dropped off at your place for not much of a charge!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21218\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21218\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2016\/03\/5-things-i-already-miss-about-colombia\/ive-got-a-pineapple\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-21218\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21218\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Ive-got-a-Pineapple.jpg\" alt=\"colombian fruit\" width=\"800\" height=\"526\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Ive-got-a-Pineapple.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Ive-got-a-Pineapple-300x197.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21218\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Loving that Colombian fruit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Street fruit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My morning routine basically has to involve a stroll down to a nearby street corner to a street stall run by a lovely smiling lady (see below&#8230;) who prepares <strong>delicious cups of fresh fruit for the measly sum of 2.000 COP per cup<\/strong>: I usually opt for papaya, mango and pineapple, but occasionally throw in some kiwi, banana&#8230;whatever takes my fancy really. <strong>The variety of fresh fruit is astounding in Colombia<\/strong>, and I really do appreciate the wonderful convenience of fresh street fruit whenever I leave Colombia&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/09\/colombian-fruits-quiz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TAKE OUR INTERACTIVE FRUIT QUIZ TO TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF COLOMBIAN FRUITS&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20521\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20521\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/12\/photos-of-choco-colombia-stephanie-ascanio\/two-guys-playing-with-a-ballon-black-and-withe-happiness-afrocolombia\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20521\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20521\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/CHOCO.-5crop.jpg\" alt=\"Choco Colombia Stephanie Ascanio\" width=\"800\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/CHOCO.-5crop.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/CHOCO.-5crop-300x131.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20521\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Smiling happy faces! Smiling happy folks&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That smiling lady from the fruit stall is really indicative of what I most miss about Colombia when I leave: <strong>Colombian people!<\/strong> Sure, there are those who say that people in Bogota aren&#8217;t friendly&#8230;but that&#8217;s only because the rest of Colombia has set some impossibly high standards. Even in the capital the people are, certainly compared to much of the UK, <strong>incredibly smiley and friendly, especially to new people and foreigners<\/strong>.
