Throughout her career she has created\u00a0various photographic series. Many of them have led to\u00a0exhibitions. One of her favorites is <strong>&#8220;Perspectives&#8221;<\/strong>, the photographic series\u00a0of a job that lasted several months in Choc\u00f3 and had as it&#8217;s theme portraits of Afro-Colombians in the region. Ascanio identified with &#8220;Perspectives&#8221;, the beginning of her style as a photographer and her interest in portraying the everyday. She then\u00a0traveled to Mexico where she found in the colors and textures of the cities, strong cultural traditions. <strong>She currently runs her\u00a0own commercial photography business and continues to manage her\u00a0own artistic projects.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Stephanie Ascanio es una fot\u00f3grafa colombiana<\/strong> interesada en documentar la cotidianidad de los espacios urbanos que la rodean. A lo largo de su trayectoria ha realizado diversas series fotogr\u00e1ficas. Muchas de ellas, han motivado exposiciones. Una de sus favoritas es <strong>\u201cMiradas\u201d<\/strong>, la compilaci\u00f3n de un trabajo que se extendi\u00f3 durante varios meses en el departamento del Choc\u00f3 y tuvo como tem\u00e1tica el retrato de afrocolombianos de la regi\u00f3n. Ascanio identifica con \u201cMiradas\u201d, el inicio de su estilo como fot\u00f3grafa y de su inter\u00e9s por retratar lo cotidiano. From the early sixteenth century, African slaves who arrived in what is now\u00a0Colombia\u00a0began to mix with the indigenous, Spanish and Creole people <strong>to define what is a great part of the Colombian ethnic identity<\/strong>. However, for centuries their important cultural role in what we define today as Colombia has been refuted and misjudged. <strong>The truth is that this\u00a0legacy is undeniable<\/strong>. This photographic work brings\u00a0to life the Pacific region through faces and eyes that <strong>serve as proof of the powerful visual identity of the Afro-Colombian population in this region<\/strong>. The portraits are accompanied by texts of Afro-Colombian poetry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cMiradas\u201d es una serie de fotograf\u00edas que fueron realizadas en el Pac\u00edfico Colombiano<\/strong>, buscando plasmar el carisma, el sentir y el alma de sus habitantes, el recurso m\u00e1s preciado de la regi\u00f3n. Desde principios del siglo XVI, los esclavos africanos que llegaron a lo que actualmente es el pa\u00eds, comenzaron a mezclarse con los ind\u00edgenas, espa\u00f1oles y criollos <strong>para definir lo que es buena parte de la identidad \u00e9tnica colombiana.<\/strong> Sin embargo, durante siglos se ha negado y juzgado equivocadamente su importante papel cultural de lo que hoy definimos como Colombia. <strong>Lo cierto es que su legado es indudable.<\/strong> Este trabajo fotogr\u00e1fico se aproxima a la vida en el pac\u00edfico por medio de rostros y miradas que sirven como <strong>prueba visual de la poderosa identidad de la poblaci\u00f3n Afrocolombiana de esta regi\u00f3n.<\/strong> Los retratos van acompa\u00f1ados de textos de poes\u00eda
