With featured pieces about the area on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/fathom\/2014\/06\/28\/get-to-know-getsemani-cartagenas-coolest-new-neighborhood\/\" target=\"_blank\">Forbes<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/02\/26\/travel\/in-cartagena-colombia-the-once-dangerous-getsemani-district-comes-into-its-own.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">NY Times<\/a> (among many others), the secret that was\u00a0Getseman\u00ed is certainly out, but, as with many parts of Colombia, <strong>the individuality and spirit of the neighborhood remains intact<\/strong>.\u00a0Travelers now come here for it&#8217;s <strong>affordable accommodation, excellent live music scene, and artistic community spirit<\/strong>. Much like La Candelaria in central Bogota,\u00a0Getseman\u00ed has shaken off it&#8217;s gritty reputation, and turned to street-art as a way of incorporating the voice of local residents and artists into the fabric and the narrative of the city streets. <strong>A walk around\u00a0Getseman\u00ed not only reveals beautiful cafes and bars, elegantly fading old colonial mansions, and a vibrant selection of people<\/strong>, but also a wonderful treasure trove of street-art. This work depicts all sorts of images and people; however, the street-art of\u00a0Getseman\u00ed is rooted in the\u00a0<em>costeno\u00a0<\/em>experience, with<strong> images of tropical scenes, <i>palenqueras<\/i>, and local flora and fauna in abundance<\/strong>. So when you pay a visit to Cartagena, make sure to get yourself out of the Walled City for at least an afternoon and <strong>pay a visit to\u00a0Getseman\u00ed<\/strong>.
