{"id":20365,"date":"2015-11-06T10:01:26","date_gmt":"2015-11-06T15:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/?p=20365"},"modified":"2021-08-23T10:46:07","modified_gmt":"2021-08-23T15:46:07","slug":"visit-quebrada-las-gachas-guadalupe-santander","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/11\/visit-quebrada-las-gachas-guadalupe-santander\/","title":{"rendered":"Quebrada Las Gachas, Guadalupe, Santander"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last month I wrote a <a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/10\/santanders-cano-cristales-the-rivers-of-guadalupe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post all about the Cano Cristales of Santander<\/a> (that&#8217;s what I christened it anyway!) &#8211; this focused on <strong>the amazing red rivers flowing around the small town of Guadalupe in Santander department<\/strong>, and their similarity to the iconic Colombian attraction of Cano Cristales&#8230;the key difference being that <strong>the red rivers of Guadalupe are red all year round<\/strong> (as they get their color due to the rocks they flow over) and <strong>much cheaper and easier to visit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I then, naturally, posted a few of <strong>the best photos of the red rivers of Guadalupe<\/strong> on <a href=\"https:\/\/instagram.com\/seecolombia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our Instagram feed<\/a> (check us out &#8211; 5000 followers and rising!). They got lots of likes and comments, and I was happy&#8230;so far, so good, right?! Well, it got a whole lot better actually &#8211; if you read my post you&#8217;ll see that<strong> I highly recommended a local guide and hotel\/restaurant owner named Jose<\/strong>. He was very passionate about promoting his home town as a tourist destination, and I told him that I would do my best to show off the magic of the place via this blog.<strong> I honestly thought my blog post, Instagram snaps etc. would be the extent of that promotion&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20375\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20375\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/11\/visit-quebrada-las-gachas-guadalupe-santander\/picmonkey-collage-5\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20375\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20375\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/PicMonkey-Collage.jpg\" alt=\"Las Gachas Guadalupe Santander\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/PicMonkey-Collage.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/PicMonkey-Collage-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20375\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amazing shares of my muscular back (and that red river) on some massive Instagram travel sites!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>the red rivers clearly struck a chord with people<\/strong>: since I posted the photos of Quebrada Las Gachas, they have been shared by some of the biggest Instagram travel accounts, not just in Colombia, but in the world, and<strong> the combined numbers on these posts stands at over 25,000 likes and at least 2,000 comments<\/strong> (mostly saying variations of the word &#8220;Wow&#8221;). To say I am pleased with those numbers would be an understatement! So, <strong>assuming that many people are now googling Quebrada las Gachas and Guadalupe, Santander<\/strong> in the hope of finding out more about this beautiful place, here is a photo gallery of <strong>the beautiful red rivers of Santander!<\/strong> And don&#8217;t forget to click the link at the beginning for <strong>full information on how to visit Guadalupe, Santander&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>2017 UPDATE &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>There have been worrying recent reports from Guadalupe about tourists leaving large amounts of trash behind when they visit Las Gachas &#8211; please, please, please (and we really can&#8217;t emphasise this enough) clean up your rubbish and take it back to town to dispose of it properly! However, for these photos to be as popular and well-received across Instagram as they were was an amazing thing. <strong>Las Gachas is one of the those places that justifies the whole &#8220;Colombia is Magical Realism&#8221;
