However, as they&#8217;re my parents, <strong>they got on board pretty quickly and have since been to visit me twice<\/strong>, with a third trip on the cards for this July. <strong>And guess what? They love it too!<\/strong> Colombia is a perfect family destination: amazing diversity, friendly, welcoming people, good value travel&#8230;But where to take the parents? <strong>Here are my top parental Colombian destinations from my experiences of traveling Colombia with my Mum and Dad:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17761\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17761\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/03\/colombia-with-parents-where-to-go\/274-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17761\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17761\" src=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/274.jpg\" alt=\"Cartagena Colombia\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/274.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/274-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17761\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wandering around Cartagena<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Cartagena<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yeah, it&#8217;s an obvious one, but<strong> the chances are that it&#8217;s also somewhere they&#8217;ve heard of!<\/strong> Plus, how can anyone not be blown away by the gorgeous blend of colonial architecture,\u00a0<em>costeno\u00a0<\/em>charm and Caribbean weather that is Cartagena. <strong>Full of boutique hotels and excellent restaurants<\/strong>, it&#8217;s the perfect first-stop destination for parents who <strong>perhaps haven&#8217;t ever traveled in a more off-the-beaten-track destination before&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17762\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17762\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/03\/colombia-with-parents-where-to-go\/attachment\/1034\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17762\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17762\" src=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/1034.jpg\" alt=\"Providencia Colombia\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/1034.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/1034-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Providencia &#8211; put it away!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Providencia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Forget San Andres, nearby <strong>Providencia is the island\u00a0<em>par-excellance\u00a0<\/em>for family visits<\/strong>: much less touristy, with a more laid-back Caribbean charm, and amazing food. Plus, for such a paradisaical destination, it&#8217;s surprisingly good value for money, which parents are always glad for in my experience! <strong>And you can fly here from Cartagena easily. Perfect!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17763\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17763\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/03\/colombia-with-parents-where-to-go\/653new\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17763\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17763\" src=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/653New.jpg\" alt=\"Tayrona National Park Colombia\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/653New.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/653New-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17763\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tayrona: trust me, they&#8217;ll love it!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Tayrona National Park<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ecohabs! If you don&#8217;t know what I mean, the <strong>Ecohabs are stunning beach-side guesthouses which, although beautiful, are a little on the pricey side!<\/strong> Step forward the been-earning-money-for-30-years members of the family&#8230;But it&#8217;s win-win: <strong>they&#8217;ll be blown away by the jungles and beaches of Tayrona<\/strong> and you will finally get to visit the park without sleeping in a sandy tent (which, although uncomfortable, does have a certain charm). It&#8217;s worth noting that the hike into the main part of the park (Cabo San Juan and Arrecifes) is a long and hot one, and could prove tricky for more elderly relatives. The Ecohabs are accessible entirely by vehicle from the entrance so that makes it a lot easier for parents who might not be up to a long hike. My parents are in their fifties and relatively fit and they managed all of the hikes (including Pueblito) with plenty of water and breaks, and one tactical horseride&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17764\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17764\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/03\/colombia-with-parents-where-to-go\/attachment\/106\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17764\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17764\" src=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/106.jpg\" alt=\"Cocora Valley Colombia\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/106.jpg 600w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/106-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17764\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Awwww!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Salento and the Cocora Valley<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Located in the rolling green hills of the Coffee Triangle, <strong>Salento is a brilliant destination for a family holiday<\/strong>: lovely little\u00a0<em>pueblo<\/em>, delicious fresh trout, hiking, coffee tours, and of course, the giant wax palms of the Cocora Valley. <strong>My Dad was so taken by Salento that he probably would have bought a house if we hadn&#8217;t stopped him&#8230;<\/strong>Plus, take them to play\u00a0<em>tejo\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>rana<\/em>: they won&#8217;t believe it&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2014\/12\/tejo-in-colombia-with-my-parents\/\" target=\"_blank\">then they&#8217;ll love it and be amazing at it!<\/a><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17767\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17767\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2015\/03\/colombia-with-parents-where-to-go\/047-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17767\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17767\" src=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/047.jpg\" alt=\"Bogota Botanical Gardens\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/047.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/047-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17767\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Enjoying the Botanical Gardens in Bogota<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Bogota<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Stay with me&#8230;<\/strong>many people can&#8217;t wait to be out of Bogota once they arrive, but it&#8217;s a great family holiday spot, at least after they fly in or before they leave. <strong>Day-trips to Zipaquira, Chicaque or Guatavita; world-class museums; some BBC beer for the father; Sunday markets in Usaquen<\/strong>; amazing restaurants&#8230;Bogota has a lot to offer.
