And, <strong>a real plus when traveling with kids, the journey and the destination are\u00a0equally great.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16527\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16527\" style=\"width: 392px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2014\/10\/colombia-with-kids-parque-arvi\/img_1993\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16527\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16527\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1993.jpg\" alt=\"Parque Arvi Medellin\" width=\"392\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1993.jpg 392w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1993-224x300.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 392px) 100vw, 392px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16527\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Medellin Metrocable<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve visited or read about Medellin you\u2019ve probably heard about the metrocable.<strong>The city\u2019s metro system includes three cable car lines<\/strong> that provide access to the city for\u00a0the thousands of residents that live on the steep mountainside neighborhoods, and <strong>helped\u00a0Medellin earn the distinction as the \u201cmost innovative city.\u201d<\/strong> For tourists, the metrocable\u00a0offers a unique view of the city, and easy access to Parque Arvi, a 60 square mile naturere serve outside the city. <strong>For kids, traveling in a gondola over a mountain distracts them<\/strong>\u00a0from their urge to ask if you\u2019re there yet or beg to play a game on your phone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16529\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16529\" style=\"width: 707px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2014\/10\/colombia-with-kids-parque-arvi\/img_5902\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16529\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-16529  \" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_5902.jpg\" alt=\"Medellin Metrocable\" width=\"707\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_5902.jpg 884w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_5902-300x177.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 707px) 100vw, 707px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16529\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Medellin Metrocable<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The metrocable starts by the Medellin River<\/strong> and then soars up past steep hillside\u00a0neighborhoods, over the rooftops and narrow streets and eventually to the Parque Espa\u00f1a\u00a0library, <strong>an impressive structure that stands like giant boulders overlooking the city<\/strong>. From\u00a0there, you switch lines and continue up, where the landscape becomes more rural and the\u00a0temperature drops a few degrees. You\u2019ll probably see a horse or two, and perhaps some\u00a0potato farmers, before<strong> the cable car reaches the top of the mountain and soars over the\u00a0forest below.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16528\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16528\" style=\"width: 784px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2014\/10\/colombia-with-kids-parque-arvi\/img_1998-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16528\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16528\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1998.jpg\" alt=\"Parque Arvi Medellin\" width=\"784\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1998.jpg 784w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1998-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 784px) 100vw, 784px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16528\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Parque Arvi, Medellin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Arvi metro station has a small visitor center, and <strong>hosts a produce and craft market on\u00a0the weekends.<\/strong> You could spend days exploring different areas of the park, including rope\u00a0courses, zip lines and miles of trails, and there are guides available to help you plan your\u00a0trip. But <strong>for those with limited time, or young kids, one of the easiest options is to head\u00a0to Piedras Blancas<\/strong>, a hotel and park in the nature reserve. From the road you can take a\u00a0shuttle, chiva, taxi or horse (always so many transport options in Colombia!) right to the\u00a0entrance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16530\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16530\" style=\"width: 376px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2014\/10\/colombia-with-kids-parque-arvi\/img_1999\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16530\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16530\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1999.jpg\" alt=\"Parque Arvi Medellin\" width=\"376\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1999.jpg 376w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1999-215x300.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 376px) 100vw, 376px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16530\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Parque Arvi, Medellin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Check out the views from the Piedras Blancas hotel and then <strong>head down to the nature\u00a0trail,<\/strong> which is marked with pictures of the wildlife you might see on the way. The trail\u00a0will lead you to the insect museum and also to a beautiful butterfly house.<strong>The park has a zipline course and boats available for rent.<\/strong> Paddle around the lake, enjoy\u00a0the fresh air, and the gorgeous birds and flowers of the Antioquian countryside.
