My name is Tracey Armitage, hailing from the that gringo state up north, the good ol\u00b4 USA, Maryland to be exact. At the quarter-life cross-roads, I decided to go after the dream I had been sitting on <strong>to live and work in Latin America<\/strong> and try to make a difference through positive social impact. At last, I landed an internship as coordinator of a young and innovative sustainable Colombian coffee brand! <strong>Hola Bogot\u00e1, Colombia, home sweet home.<\/strong>..wait, it is an average of 15\u00bac all year? I thought this was tropical, palm trees, sandy beaches Colombia? And thus began my education in <strong>what this incredibly diverse and awe-inspiring country has to offer; practically everything.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16300\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16300\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2014\/09\/introducing-see-colombias-new-intern-tracey\/10713015_10152901905125921_5282973523015308452_n\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16300\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16300\" src=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/10713015_10152901905125921_5282973523015308452_n.jpg\" alt=\"Colombia Intern\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/10713015_10152901905125921_5282973523015308452_n.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/10713015_10152901905125921_5282973523015308452_n-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16300\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Representing Colombia&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the last 8 months living in Colombia <strong>I have soaked up as much culture, custom, language and \u201cbuena vibra\u201d as possible<\/strong>, becoming quite a \u201crola\u201d (term for Bogotanos) in the process. Living and working with gregarious, inspired and warm Colombians, I have found my \u201cfamilia\u201d and learned from them bit by bit about <strong>all the amazing spots I have to visit, the fascinating and very real recent history<\/strong>, what it\u00b4s like to live without seasons and <strong>how to handle a few rounds of Aguardiente<\/strong> (the only moment when you wish Colombians were<em> not<\/em> <i>so<\/i> hospitable).<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, working in the specialty coffee industry here in Bogot\u00e1, <strong>I have had more delicious coffee than I had ever dreamed of<\/strong> and now know why Colombian coffee is truly some of the best in the world. I also was able to be part of driving a big change here which is <strong>keeping more of the best quality beans here in the country<\/strong> vs. export to my local hipster caf\u00e9 back in the States\u00a0 (Europe, Austrailia etc). The diversity of regions, varieties and techniques of processing is <strong>creating a thriving coffee culture and excellence<\/strong> that every <em>Colombiano<\/em> should be proud of and any visitor or expat should learn about! Before moving down, I already knew the top 10 Colombian songs, the best typical foods and some great slang terms thanks to the blog.
