I didn\u2019t make it to Colombia until 2012, when I moved with my husband and two young boys to Medell\u00edn. I immediately fell in love with the country and, like See Colombia Travel, I am committed to correcting outdated stereotypes and misconceptions about Colombia and convincing everyone I know to come visit. The City of Eternal Spring has perfect weather, gorgeous scenery, warm and welcoming <i>Paisas<\/i>, and <strong>a long list of things to do with kids<\/strong>. See Colombia Travel has posted before about things to do with kids (<a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2013\/06\/travelling-to-colombia-with-children-the-essential-guide-part-2-medellin\/\" target=\"_blank\">see here<\/a>) but if you\u2019ve done it all and are looking for more, <strong>here are some things that should keep the family busy<\/strong> for another day or two. On a weekday, <strong>you might have the place to yourselves<\/strong>. You can take a city bus or a taxi to the park and entrance is around $2. There is a river for wading and swimming, <strong>zip lines for the older kids<\/strong>, and manicured paths and gardens. A short 15 minute hike will take you to a lookout point for a gorgeous view of the park and the city, and <strong>along the way you\u2019re sure to see birds, butterflies and exotic plants<\/strong>. The park includes a small restaurant and areas for picnicking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16186\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16186\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2014\/09\/colombia-with-kids-medellin\/img_1778\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16186\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16186\" src=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_1778.jpg\" alt=\"El Salado Medellin\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_1778.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_1778-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16186\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">El Salado Ecotourism Park, Medellin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ciudad del Rio<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ciudad del Rio neighborhood is a former industrial area that is now home to a park, restaurants and Medellin\u2019s Museum of Modern Art. The museum is small (<strong>perfect for kids\u2019 short attention spans<\/strong>) but if modern art isn\u2019t their thing, you can see plenty of art outside as well. The walls surrounding the area are <strong>adorned with spectacular graffiti<\/strong>. The park is a popular spot for picnics, dog walkers and performers. As one of the few flat spots in Medellin, it\u2019s also <strong>a good place to ride a bike or skateboard<\/strong>. On the weekends there is a constant parade of ice cream sellers (and the occasional michelada vendor for parents). If you need something more substantial, go to Bonuar, <strong>a Creole fusion restaurant that has brunch on the weekends and serves great fries and burgers<\/strong> (including the rarest of Colombian burgers, the veggie burger!).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16187\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16187\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2014\/09\/colombia-with-kids-medellin\/img_1971\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16187\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16187\" src=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_1971.jpg\" alt=\"Cuidad del Rio skate park Medellin\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_1971.jpg 600w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_1971-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16187\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Contemplating his next move at the Cuidad del Rio skate park<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barefoot Park\/ Water Museum: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re exhausted but they still need to burn off steam? Go to Barefoot Park. Take off your shoes (or the park staff will remind you to), <strong>cool off in the fountains, play in the giant sand box and run through bamboo groves<\/strong>. If the kids tire of the park or need a break from the heat, visit the EPM Water Museum, which is right next door. EPM, Medellin\u2019s utility, provides funding for high quality attractions around the city (see Parque Explora) and <strong>their water museum is well designed and surprisingly fun.<\/strong> The museum starts with a trip through a dark tunnel where images of planets, volcanoes and dinosaurs are projected onto the walls. The narrative journey continues through <strong>themed rooms full of hands-on activities.<\/strong> Kids can learn about the ecosystems of Colombia, <strong>engulf themselves in giant soap bubbles, and make tidal waves with their hands.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16188\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16188\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/2014\/09\/colombia-with-kids-medellin\/img_1963\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16188\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16188\" src=\"http:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_1963.jpg\" alt=\"Barefoot Park Water Museum Medellin\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_1963.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_1963-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16188\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Barefoot Park in Medellin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>El Tesoro Mall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the evening, head to the upscale El Tesoro Mall. You can <strong>view the lights of the city from the outdoor walkways<\/strong> and enjoy some fabulous people watching inside the mall.
