There are also plenty of slightly strange flavors, ones that might have you scratching your head a little. Changua<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Bogot\u00e1 soup is certainly a leap-of-faith: a mixture of water and milk served hot with a whole egg, cilantro, and a piece of slightly stale bread known as \u201ccalado\u201d. It sounds pretty bad but is actually a rather satisfying breakfast, especially on a chilly day in the capital. Not for the faint of stomach\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"586\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-2.jpg\" alt=\"mondongo\" class=\"wp-image-27492\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-2-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-2-768x563.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption>Mondongo\u2026looks innocent enough, right!?<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Mondongo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of strange soups&#8230; Mondongo is a soup found in variations all over Latin America, but they&#8217;re all based on the <strong>same key ingredient&#8230;diced tripe!<\/strong> A lovely bit of stomach soup to warm your cockles on a wintry morning. Not really for beginners this one, although, like the changua, <strong>once you get over the slightly strange ingredients, it&#8217;s genuinely tasty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"599\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-3.jpg\" alt=\"Hormigas culonas\" class=\"wp-image-27493\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-3-768x575.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption>Hey, someone\u2019s eaten most of the legs already!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Hormigas Culonas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Big-arsed ants! I really shouldn\u2019t have to say more, but, since you asked, these crunchy, fried ants are a delicacy in Santander department, but can be found all over Colombia. Lechona<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing too weird about the flavor of this one: it\u2019s roasted pork stuffed with yellow peas, green onion, yellow rice and spices, all cooked up in a brick oven for around 10 hours.<strong> It\u2019s genuinely delicious. <\/strong>What elevates it to the status of \u2018weird\u2019 is the presentation: it\u2019s a whole roasted pig, head, snout and all, and this is how you see it in the restaurant or food-stand, ready to be scooped out and served!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-4.jpg\" alt=\"guinea pig\" class=\"wp-image-27494\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-4.jpg 600w, https:\/\/seecolombia.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/top-5-weird-colombian-foods-4-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>Gilesy gets intimate with some cuy<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Cuy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026or guinea pig! A popular traditional dish all over the Andean regions of South America,<em> <strong>Cuy<\/strong><\/em> is eaten in the south of Colombia, and is likely to be found only if you\u2019re around <em>Pasto<\/em> in <em>Nari\u00f1o<\/em> department. <strong>There it\u2019s a delicacy<\/strong> and is served whole, with a crispy fried skin. It\u2019s not weird here, and again, it\u2019s pretty good, but for anyone traveling to Colombia who grew up with a cute little guinea pig, it certainly qualifies as weird!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there you have it. I could have included plenty more interesting little snacks and drinks; <strong>Colombia has no shortage of the weird and wonderful! <\/strong>But where\u2019s the fun of travel without a few surprises, right!?
