It’s time for a bit of Friday fun, folks. We have scoured the world<\/strong> (well, just Colombia actually) to bring you some of the funniest place names in Colombia<\/strong>. From downright rude to inexplicably random, we have collected a list of Colombian towns with the strangest names.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1. Si Te Acuerdas, Antioquia<\/h2>\n
\"Bottles<\/a>
I imagine these might have somethig to do with this town’s name<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

That’s right, there is actually a town called ‘If You Remember’. I guess the parties in this place must be pretty wild<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2. Piojo, Atlantico<\/h2>\n

Piojo can either mean louse or ugly person. Either way, it doesn’t sound like a great place to live.<\/strong><\/p>\n

3. Mariquita, Tolima<\/h2>\n

There’s something very politically incorrect<\/strong> about a town called ‘Little Gay Person’ don’t you think?<\/p>\n

4. El Coma, Antioquia<\/h2>\n

I can only imagine that it looks a little something like this…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Just another ‘sleepy’ Colombian town I guess…<\/p>\n

5. Socorro, Santander<\/h2>\n

It’s surely not a good sign<\/strong> when someone arrived in your town and the first thing they thought was ‘Help’.<\/p>\n

6. Vayan Viendo, Antioquia<\/h2>\n

Now here’s a place with an inviting name<\/strong>. It’s just so welcoming when a town asks you to ‘Take a Look’.<\/p>\n

7. Venezuela, Santander<\/h2>\n

Perhaps the most amusing thing about this town is that it is fairly close to the Venezuelan border which, I can only asssume, causes oodles of confusion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“Where are you from?”<\/p>\n

“Venezuela.”<\/p>\n

“Really? Me too. Which part of Venezuela?”<\/p>\n

“Calle 16”<\/p>\n

“Huh?”<\/p>\n

8. Ventaquemada, Boyaca<\/h2>\n

Tip: don’t start a business in ‘Burnt Sale’.<\/p>\n

9. Mojaculo, Magdalena<\/h2>\n

What, you didn’t think I’d put up a photo for this one? Use your imagination.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is my personal favourite<\/strong>. I just wish I could have been there at the town meeting when they were coming up with the name.<\/p>\n

“How about Sweaty Armpits?”<\/p>\n

“No, I don’t think it gives off the right impression. I like Smelly and Dirty.”<\/p>\n

“Nobody will visit. Surely something like Slow, Painful and Boring Death would work better?”<\/p>\n

“Let’s just stick with the original idea, there’s surely no way that can be misconstrued.”<\/p>\n

10. Soledad 2000, Atlantico<\/h2>\n

Any place name with a number in it is fine by me. Especially as someone at the turn of the cenury thought that 2000 would be cool forever<\/strong>. You’re not wrong, buddy.<\/p>\n

11. El Plan, La Guajira<\/h2>\n

I love it when El Plan comes together (for the local fiesta, obviously).<\/p>\n

12. Colombia, Cundinamarca<\/h2>\n

I am yet to visit, but I can only assume that this town is a mini-Colombia with all the different regions, customs, cuisines and cultures melted down into a much smaller space. Either that or it’s a pretty self-indulgent name<\/strong>,<\/p>\n

13. Distracci\u00f3n, La Guajira<\/h2>\n

Huh, what? Sorry I was a million miles away. In La Guajira.<\/p>\n

14. Si Se Apura, Antioquia<\/h2>\n

‘If You Hurry’ to Antioquia, you can make a trip through all of the weirdly named towns that this region has to offer.<\/p>\n

15. Siberia, Cundinamarca<\/h2>\n

Off to work in one of Siberia’s many business parks…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

If anyone has been to Siberia in Russia and Colombia’s counterpart, you will probably understand where the name came from. Let’s leave it at that.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Bonus: Salsipuedes, Argentina<\/h2>\n

I know this isn’t in Colombia, but I just love the idea of a town being so awful that visitors are warned to ‘Get Out If You Can’. Next flight to Cordoba anyone?<\/strong><\/p>\n
