It’s a busy time for us at See Colombia Travel, but that’s all a little hush-hush so I can’t go into it too much! I’ve still had time this week to lurk around the Trip Advisor forums and go through my emails, and I’ve noticed a recurring question seems to be about solo travel in Colombia<\/a>. Is it safe, should I send my child, where should I stay?<\/p>\n

Some places are better to travel with people<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In my opinion, the question of solo travel is different to asking ‘is Colombia Safe?<\/a>‘, since solo travel entails its own risks and concerns. As far as the question is specific to Colombia, you can expect to be as safe as anywhere else in South America. I would always recommend trying to find a group if you’re going out at night and to do your research before hand. You’ll be fine in Parque Lleras,\u00a0Medell\u00edn<\/a>, for example, but you shouldn’t be looking to walk back to your hotel alone.<\/p>\n

As for meeting people in Colombia, we’ve got a great backpacker scene and hostels in the big cities such as Bogot\u00e1, Medell\u00edn and\u00a0Cartagena<\/a>\u00a0are pretty much full with eager travellers all year round, so you’ll have know trouble meeting fellow foreigners looking to explore the big city. On top of that, locals are generally very warm and very friendly and will undoubtedly do everything in their power to make you feel safe and at home.<\/p>\n

The usual advice for solo travellers is sufficient for Colombia, just keep your wits about you and remain sensitive to local customs and local advice. This drastically reduces any chance of anything happening to you abroad.<\/p>\n
