The Best Colombian-Themed Halloween Costumes

Transmilenio Bogota

So tomorrow night is the big one: Halloween! It’s around the time when you be starting to figure out what your costume is going to be for this year, and, just in case you feel like paying tribute to Colombia this Halloween, here are some great ideas for Colombian-themed Halloween costumes to really impress your friends (assuming your friends are Colombian, or incredibly well versed in Latin American culture…):

Happy Halloween Colombia

This one remains universally popular, and with good reason: who doesn’t love Carlos Valderrama?! It’s also a good costume because it’s universally recognizable, what with the great big wig and all. As much as I love them, a Falcao or James costume just wouldn’t have the same party impact. You could even Halloween it up with some fake blood and go with ‘El ZomPibe’…

What you’ll need: Big blonde curly wig; retro Colombia football shirt; short-shorts; fake mustache

What a face!

From a classic sporting legend to a new one; Nairo is fast becoming a poster-boy for modern Colombian sport, so what better time to dress up as the master of Colombian cycling? Plus he seems like an amazing guy, so I wouldn’t mind paying tribute to him…Same goes as with El Pibe, a bit of fake blood and you can Zombie-Nairo it up, for that addes fright factor.

What you’ll need: a pink Lycra bodysuit; Movistar cap, bike (optional – you can’t really carry that around a party)

It’s a good look…

How about going for something a bit more abstract, and turning up dressed as a Colombian peso? As we discussed in last week’s post on Colombian currency, the peso notes here are crawling with dapper, mustachioed dudes, so, if you’re already beardy or getting started on a Movember ‘tache then try this one out; you’ll look a million dollars (or 2.000 pesos…boom tish!)

What you’ll need: cardboard to make the bill; paints; scissors; (fake facial hair if you’re not already packing)

I think this would be a good beard/bill combo

We’re all a bit scared of the Transmilenio, right?! The crowds, the crawling speed, the other person’s hair pressed up against your face…I’m sweating just imagining it! So why not go all out and go as the bus system for Halloween? It works better if you can get a partner involved (those buses are long after all), and, with added space you can even transport guests around the party! For the more discerning Halloween-type, you could be the Medellin metro…or the ‘Mio’ system in Cali, you just need different color paint.

What you’ll need: cardboard; red paint; scissors; glue; some torches for headlights; string
