Day 1. Bogota
Upon arrival one of See Colombia Travel´s representatives will be on hand to transfer you to your chosen hotel where you can relax and prepare for your upcoming adventure with us.
Day 2. Bogota. City Tour
The bike tour allows you to discover the colorful history and culture of the beautiful La Candelaria neighborhood, located in the historic center of Bogota. This tour is adjustable to suit various weather conditions and the cyclist’s preferences. The tour starts at 10:30am and lasts for 3 to 5 hours, passing by the Plaza del Chorro, the Botero museum, the National Museum, Plaza Bolivar, local market plaza, central cemetery, Egipto Neighborhood, the Colombian National University, the Gabriel Garcia Marquez cultural center, the Bullfighting Stadium and many other interesting sites. It is very flexible, so if you have suggestions feel free to mention them to the guide.
Day 3. Bogota – Zipaquira – Guatavita. Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira and El Dorado’s Sacred Lake
From Bogota we will take you the salt mines of Zipaquira, from where the monumental Cathedral was excavated. This unique structure is almost 120m deep and occupies an area of around 8000m², with four sections, each one 100m long and 13m wide.
After visiting the salt mines, we’ll continue to the Lake of Guatavita, where the legend of El Dorado originates. According to the legend, in pre-Columbian times the Indians held special religious ceremonies in which the Chief (Cacique), with his body totally covered with gold dust, was submerged in the lake as an offering to their gods, while the natives threw precious stones and gold pieces into the lake.
Day 4. Bogota - Villa de Leyva
After breakfast you will be assisted by See Colombia Travel staff for your upcoming journey to Villa de Leyva where you can relax and prepare in your specially chosen hotel.
Day 5. Villa de Leyva. City Tour
The tour begins in Ricaurte Square and continues to the house of Antonio Nariño, who was a journalist, politician, and militant who played an important role in the independence of the country. The visit continues through the Main Square. Covering over 14000m², it is the biggest cobbled square in Colombia. The tour ends with a visit to the church of El Carmen and its surrounding park. The rest of the day is free for you to get lost in any of Villa de Leyva’s enchanted cobble stone streets or to join any of the optional activities available, including a trip to Raquira, a colourful town known as the handicrafts centre of Colombia. Another option is to visit the Villa de Leyva desert or surrounding countryside.
Day 6. Villa de Leyva - Bogota
After breakfast we’ll head back to the bustling city of Bogota, ready to sample some more of this lively capital city.
Day 7. Bogota
At the chosen time you will be transferred to the airport. All good things must come to an end, after all. Of course, if 7 days just isn´t enough time in Colombia, our tours are 100% customizable and we´d be happy to extend your stay with us, just ask for more details.
